Croatia has 3 new Superplatz campsites, among the 200 best in Europe

Every year, the German automobile club ADAC awards prizes to campsites that meet its 5-star criteria and Superplatz title. For 2025, there are 200 European campsites in this category, including 26 from Croatia, but unfortunately none from Slovenia so far. Here is a list of the award-winning campsites.

Superplatz title only for the truly best campsites

The Superplatz Camping title is the highest award that can be given to a campsite in Europe and is awarded by the German ADAC based on the assessments of their inspectors. Campsites with this title guarantee a wide range of services and, above all, excellent quality.

For campsites, this title is also an obligation, as the guests who come to camp with them demand quality service in all areas. Five criteria are taken into account when assessing a campsite, with the greatest emphasis on the cleanliness and equipment of the sanitary facilities and pitches. However, other categories are also important, so that campsites near the sea or lakes with bathing facilities are given some priority.

Assessment criteria for the Superplatz Camping title:

- the layout, size and equipment of the pitches

- cleanliness and size of sanitary facilities

- leisure and entertainment facilities

- gastronomic and shopping facilities

- swimming facilities - natural bathing areas and swimming pools

A campsite cannot become a Superplatz without modern sanitary facilities, e.g. this is what the sanitary facilities look like in the Superplatz campsites awarded this year.

Croatia has 26 best campsites, Slovenia has none so far

ADAC has awarded 200 Camping Superplatz titles for 2025, a record number and 12 more than last year.

France has the most five-star campsites with 47, Italy has 40, Croatia has 26 or 3 more than last year, the Netherlands has 26, Germany has 23, Spain 17, Austria 11, Denmark 3, Switzerland 2, followed by Portugal, Sweden, Hungary, Luxembourg and Greece with one each.

Slovenia has been waiting for a campsite to be awarded the title for several years, but has not yet found a campsite that meets all the criteria. The best campsites with a rating of 4.5 are River Camp Bled and Terme Catez, while the best campsites with 4 stars are Sobec - Lesce, Adria Ankaran, Saksida - Zalosce, Natura - Terme Olimia, Koren - Kobarid and Terme Banovci.

Camping Valamar Lanterna has been one of the best campsites in Istria for many years and has also been awarded the Superplatz title.

Two new Superplatz in Istria, one on the island of Pag

Croatia's campsites are among the best in Europe, as shown by their average ADAC rating. With an average rating of 3.8 (out of a maximum of 5), they are in second place, just behind the campsites in the Netherlands, which have an average rating of 3.9, followed by campsites in France (3.6), Italy (3.4) and Austria (3.4).

The excellent quality is particularly true of campsites in Istria, where the largest and best-equipped campsites are to be found. This year alone, 13 of them have been awarded the Superplatz title. The Kvarner region has 6 of the best campsites, while 7 are in Dalmatia, mainly in Pag, around Zadar, Sibenik and Split.

The new Superplatz winners include:

- Camping Amarin in Rovinj

- Camping Aminess Avalona Resort on the island of Pag.

Camping Valkanela - Vrsar

Camping Valkanela, which is open from April to October, has made a lot of progress in the last few years in terms of additional facilities, especially renovating many sanitary facilities, improving the camping pitches, building new mobile homes, and adding modern children's playgrounds.

Last year, a large sports centre was built, adding children's playgrounds, a fitness centre and a mini-golf course.

In addition to traditional camping pitches, they also offer a variety of mobile homes for 2-6 people. The newest mobile homes are located by the sea, there are also mobile homes by the pool and with a private jacuzzi. In addition, agency caravans and glamping tents are also available for rent

Camping Valkanela also has a large swimming pool complex, including a children's pool with water games, and a varied beach area, including a large pebbly bay and a smaller sandy section. In addition, the campsite has a marked dog beach.

The location of the campsite is interesting for walking and cycling along the sea, as there are paths in the direction of both Vrsar and Porec.

Camping Amarin - Rovinj

On the north side of Rovinj is the Amarin campsite, which has been completely renovated in recent years, and this year they are also preparing some new features, with a new swimming pool complex (render photos in the gallery) to be opened by the summer, including an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, water playgrounds and water slides. The children's entertainment will be further improved in the new Ultramarine Kids Club, and the central square will be redesigned.

The campsite is located right next to the famous Amarin Family Hotel, and the easiest way to get to Rovinj is by taxi boat, which leaves from the campsite and takes you directly to the old part of town.

Camping Amarin, along with the well-equipped camping pitches in the central part of the town, also offers modern mobile homes with two or three bedrooms, and glamping tents for up to four people for rent. They also have modern sanitary facilities.

The campsite has a renovated beach, which is now divided into two larger pebbly sections, and there are two swimming pools and a restaurant on the right-hand side. There is also a dog beach at the edge of the resort.

Last year, a shop, a new reception and a sports park with playgrounds and children's play areas were added, as well as a skate park.

Camping Amarin is located near Rovinj and belongs to the Maistra group of campsites, which also has two Superplatz campsites - Camping Polari and Camping Vestar, on the south side of the town.

Camping Aminess Avalona Resort - Povljana, island Pag

In 2024, a brand new campsite, Aminess Avalona Resort, was opened on the southern part of the island of Pag, and after its first year of operation, it was awarded the Superplatz title. The campsite is open from mid-April to October.

It is a superbly equipped campsite, one of the first to offer camping pitches with a private heated swimming pool, as well as mobile homes & glamping homes, which were made by the Slovenian company Adria Dom and are additionally equipped with their own swimming pool. The mobile home village is arranged in a vehicle-free way, with guests parking their cars at the reception, and then being transported to the mobile home by electric golf carts.

The location of the campsite is very quiet and away from the bigger towns, so the pebble beach on the campsite is also mainly for the guests of the campsite. In addition, the campsite has a large swimming pool complex with water slides and splash park (the water is heated), and a wellness area with saunas and massages next to the pools.

There is an indoor playroom for children, animation in summer, a large children's playground, a floodlit sports centre with tennis, basketball and football courts, a fitness room and an interesting mini-golf course. Bicycle rental is also available.

There are two restaurants, a shop, a patisserie, a seafront walking path and a dog beach on the edge of the campsite.
