Ski resort 3 Zinnen - Sexten

The 3 Zinnen - Sexten ski resort, or Tre Cime in Italian, is one of South Tyrol's ski resorts and offers skiing on 115 kilometers of slopes, of which 12 km are black, 55 km are red, and 48 km are blue. The ski slopes range from 1,200 to 2,225 meters above sea level.

Many of the ski slopes are suitable for experienced skiers, but in recent years the number of blue slopes, which are particularly suitable for children, has increased. In addition, the artificial snowmaking system has been modernized, so there is no need to worry about a lack of snow on the slopes.

The ski resort is famous for its snow sculpture of a family of snowmen, which is erected every year at the top of the ski resort near the Rotwand cable car.

New features for the 2025/2026 season

The Reinhold Messner House on Monte Elmo - the former upper station of the Monte Elmo gondola lift has not been demolished, but has been converted into a visionary center for sustainability, environmental awareness, art, and culture. The old wooden beams and modern architecture have created a lively space where the past and future come together. The house not only tells the story of Messner's life, but also encourages visitors to think about responsibility and change. Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., admission €15, children 7-18 €5, family ticket €33.

Early skiing - on certain dates (December 28 - 31 December and 2-4 January and 15-20 February), the 3 Zinnen ski resort will be open for skiing from 7.30 a.m., when the Helm, Stiergarten, and Rotwand lifts will be open. This will allow you to take advantage of the best snow conditions at the ski resort.

This ski resort is becoming more popular every year and can be accessed from five locations: Sexten, Innichen, Toblach, Niederdorf, and Braies. It can also be reached by ski bus or train from neighboring towns, as the train station is located right next to the lower gondola station.

The ski resort is 50 km from Lienz in Austria and 30 km from Bruneck in Italy.

Family winter holidays in Sexten

Skiing at 3 Zinnen is very popular for families, as it offers wide ski slopes that are much less crowded than the more famous ski resorts in the Dolomites.

The ski lifts are fast, and last year a new Leitner 6-seater Porzen chairlift was installed, replacing the old ski lift, and new ski slopes were built alongside it. Five years ago, a modern Leitner 8-seater Hasenköpfl chairlift was installed, which has heated seats and takes skiers to the Helm mountain at an altitude of 2,225 meters in less than five minutes. A special feature of this chairlift is that it is child-friendly, as it is equipped with an entry conveyor belt that raises or lowers depending on the size of the child, making it easier to get on and off the chairlift.

The Holzriese ski run ( 3a and 3b) near the Rotwand gondola lift will delight the best skiers who want much more adrenaline. The slope has a gradient of 71%, which ranks it among the steepest slopes in the Dolomites. However, there is also a "detour" along the blue slope no. 3.

On the Skimovie slope, cameras automatically record you skiing between the gates, and there is also a snow park. In the valley, there are several ski lifts suitable for the youngest skiers.

Skiers can also enjoy the 34-kilometer-long Grande Giro delle Cime circular ski trail, which takes you to five peaks and has a total elevation difference of 5,600 meters. On Tuesdays and Fridays, night skiing is also available on the Monte Baranci slope (7 p.m. to 10 p.m.) and night sledding on a 3-kilometer-long sledding slope.

Sledding - there is a 5 km long sledding trail in the Rotwand ski area - sleds can be rented at the lower station of the gondola lift, then take the cable car to the top of the ski resort (you can use your ski pass, but you are not allowed to toboggan in ski boots), from where you can then descend into the valley. The run is open when snow conditions are good.

There are several huts on the ski resort offering excellent cuisine, which is a mixture of Italian and Austrian cuisine.
