The region is on the border with Austria and Switzerland, so the cultures of all three countries are intertwined. Even so, the history of the region is quite complex and the distinction about the governing is still not entirely clear to everyone today, as the two provinces of Trentino and Bolzano, which make up the region, have little in common apart from their borders.

But there is no difficulty in recognising the region's natural beauty. The magnificent mountain ranges, most of which are the majestic Dolomites, the Alpine rivers and mountain lakes are impressive in all seasons.
