Out team visited a smaller ski resort Goldeck near Spittal am Drau, which is located 130 km away from Ljubljana. Many skiers are very familiar with the Carinthia ski resorts like Nassfeld, Gerlitzen, Katschberg, Türracher Hohe and Bad Kleinkircheim, and we were interested in the skiing experience of this smaller ski resort.

We only knew that skiing resort Goldeck has the longest black ski slope in the region, so we diceded to chek it ourselve. The ski resort managers have ensured us that guests can park their motorhome on the parking arranged just next to the main lift taking you to the top.

They have renovated most of the ski lifts in the last years, the most important is the new modern cable car that brings skiers from the valley to 1.780 above the sea leave in just 12 minutes.

There is a swimming pool and wellness area near the ski slope (2 km), and the daily ski pass already includes 2 hours of swimming.

Skiing without waiting for ski lifts

Goldeck has 25 kilometers of arranges skiing slopes that range all up to 2.140 m above the sea level. There are two modern and very fast six-seated lifts, part of the older cable car, some shorter ski lifts and children's park with two skiing tapes and lift. During our visit, the longest track of 8km was closed as there was not enough snow for good skiing.

All other tracks were opened and despite artificial snow, they were very tidy and well-arranged until late afternoon. We were thrilled to see the wide skiing tracks under both six-seated lifts that provide very safe skiing environment. Children have enjoyed great connecting tracks that are well prepared for the youngest skiers as well. If snow conditions are good, many surface of the ski resort (50 ha) is meant for off road skiing, we have as well noticed some tour skiers that have reached the top from the valley.

We have to mention friendly and helpful ski lifts technicians, that are kindly assisting kids on the cable car - every time and on all ski lifts. Even though we were skiing during the weekend and school holidays, there was no waiting line for ski lifts, most of the skiers were local people, some tourists from Slovenia and some neighboring countries.

There are quite some winter cottages taking care for rich gastronomic offer - from self-service restaurant, to typical Austrian dishes as well as typical skiing offer on sunny terrace.

After skiing we advise you take an opportunity for bathing in spa Drautal Perle with swimming pools and wellness. With a daily ski pass you have 2 hours free access to the swimming pools. If you like ice skating, you should not miss the Weissensse, that is half an hour drive away.

Prices – daily adults 44 €, 37.50 € for older than 60 years, 34 € for teenagers between 15 and 18 years and 23 € for kids between 6 and 14 years. Accompanied kids until 5 years ski for free.

Special offer every Saturday - daily ski pass for teenagers only 17 € and for children only 12 €.

It is possible to purchase tickets online and get some adidtional discounts. Family packages are prepared for daily or for more days of skiing, for example for two adults + child = 97 € or two adults + 2 children = 116 €.
