In Sistiana, Italy, close to Slovenia, the Baia Holiday Mare Pineta campsite has been beautifully decorated, and in recent years they have always added something new, and this year they will be doing so again, with the construction of a new restaurant and the opening of a wellness centre next year. It's also a great location for a weekend getaway, and outside the high season they offer a discount on the Avtokampi Camping Card.

Camping Mare Pineta belongs to the Baia Holiday camping group, which includes many campsites in the southern part of Europe, such as Camping Poljana in Losinj, Camping Cavallino near Venice, Camping Gasparina on Lake Garda and campsites in Sardinia.

Opened in 1973, it is the largest tourist facility in the destination, open from mid-April to mid-October. It is a medium-sized campsite with well-equipped pitches and modern mobile homes for 4-6 people with two or three bedrooms, and a large swimming pool area in the central part of the campsite.

The special feature of this campsite is its location, as it is set on a plateau above the Gulf of Trieste, which means that it does not have its own beach directly. It is located below the campsite and is reached by a path (15 minutes' walk), and there is a tourist train from June to September.

There is also an interesting Rilke trail leading from the campsite, which leads you to the Devin Castle, which you can visit after a 2 km easy walk. There is also an interesting walk to the nearby tourist village of Portopiccolo.

The campsite was awarded this year's prize for its cleanliness by the the Dutch auto club ANWB, which gave it an excellent rating of 4.5, making it one of the best campsites. There are several playgrounds for children, animation in summer, sports pitches for football, basketball, tennis and volleyball, and a shop.

New features at the campsite

In recent years, the campsite has added six apartments for up to 6 people, in a villa next to the campsite. The bicycle rental offer has also been improved, as there are many cycle paths in the surrounding area.

Last year, a refurbished café was opened next to the promenade itself, offering a beautiful view of the whole of the Gulf of Trieste and part of Sistiana beach. 

This year, a new restaurant with an outdoor terrace has been built, which will now seat 300 people, and a conference room will be added to accommodate events for local residents.

In addition, a new wellness centre is already under construction and is expected to open in 2026, including swimming pools, saunas and massages. The total investment is worth 6 million euros.
