Slovenian vignette prices will remain unchanged in 2025. From 2022, only electronic vignettes for motorway use will be available for vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5t. They no longer need to be stuck to the windscreen. The vignette is linked to the registration number of the vehicle and the buyer receives only a receipt when purchasing the vignette. We have checked which vignettes are required for motorhomes.
Electronic Slovenian vignettes 2025
Starting in 2022, DARS has abolished the traditional sticker vignettes and introduced electronic vignettes, which are valid as a payment for driving on motorways and designated expressways for all vehicles with a maximum permissible weight not exceeding 3.5 tonnes.
Vehicles (including motorhomes) with a GVM exceeding 3.5t are subject to the e-DARSGO electronic toll collection system in Slovenia, which requires the registration and use of an electronic DarsGo card for toll payment.
When purchasing a vignette, the exact registration number of the vehicle must be entered at the dealer or on the website and recorded in the system. In case of incorrect information, the vehicle owner may be fined €300 (or more if the control system detects more infringements) and must also buy a vignette.
Electronic vignettes are not new, as they have been used for many years in Hungary and Slovakia, and in recent years in Austria (combination of electronic and conventional vignettes, including daily vignettes from 2024), the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Romania.
Information on electronic vignettes in Slovenia:
> can be purchased on the evinjeta.dars.si website and also at petrol stations and AMZS
> you can purchase the vignette in advance and specify the start of validity at the time of purchase, which can be 30 days in advance from the date of purchase
> vignette prices for 2025 remain the same as last year, e.g. an annual vignette for a passenger car and a camper van up to 3.5t costs €117.50, for a van with a height over the first axle of more than 1.3 metres the vignette price is €235 and for a motorbike €58.70
> the exact registration number of the vehicle to which the e-Vignette is linked must be provided at the time of purchase, the buyer will only receive a confirmation of purchase of the e-Vignette
> An annual vignette is valid for one year from the date of purchase, e.g. if you buy an annual vignette on 15.1.2024, it is valid up to and including 15.1.2025. A monthly vignette is valid from the date of entry into force, which is set by the buyer, until the end of the same day of the following month, e.g. 15.3. up to and including 15.4. up to 24h. A weekly vignette is valid for seven consecutive days from the day of commencement of validity set by the purchaser, e.g. 15.3. up to and including 21.3. up to 24h.
> when the vehicle is sold, the vignette will remain on the vehicle if it still has the same number plates - if the vehicle is taken out of circulation, the owner is entitled to a refund of a pro-rata part of the annual vignette
> control of vignettes is both physical and electronic via special cameras installed over motorways, the penalty for driving without a vignette ranges from €300 to €500
> each year the DARS e-Vignette system will automatically alert the vehicle owner to the expiry of the annual vignette.
Three categories of Slovenian e-Vignettes - motorhomes in Class 2A
The Slovenian vignette system applies only to vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5 t or even to such vehicles with trailers attached.
> Vignette class 1 - for motorcycles
> Vignette Class 2A - for vehicles up to 1.3 m above the first axle and also for motorhomes, irrespective of the height of the motorhome above the first axle
> Vignette class 2B - for vehicles with a height of 1.3 metres or more above the first axle (this applies mainly to vans)
Motorhomes are an exception in the toll classes, as according to the classification, they should be in category 2B, but regardless of the height of the vehicle above the first axle, motorhomes are considered to be in category 2A. Thus, owners of motorhomes must purchase a vignette, which is also valid for cars.
In the case of converted vans, a 2A vignette can only be purchased if the vehicle is approved as a motorhome. Otherwise, and if the height of the vehicle above the first axle is 1.3m or more, a 2B vignette must be purchased.
Vignette when towing a caravan
If you are towing a caravan, if the towing vehicle belongs to a group of vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5t, you must buy the appropriate vignette for the vehicle only, and the caravan itself does not need an additional vignette.
However, if the towing vehicle has a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5t, it is no longer part of the vignette system and must have a DARS GO electronic toll collection system.
