On the south-eastern part of Slovenia along the Kolpa river one can find 11 camps. Editorial board of the portal www.avtokampi.si decided to visit all of them and check their offers and novelties that they might be preparing for the coming season. Kolpa is currently not enough warm for swimming, but in the summer when most of the people visit it, warms up to 27 degrees. It is favorite to fishermen and lovers of the water sports, among others rowing with canoes, kayaks or rafts.

First camp we visited, Kamp Žaga is the highest laying along Kolpa, which means that it is surrounded by its the cleanest water. Camp is only 100m away from the shore and is without any doubt one of the most peaceful we visited. The owners are taking very good care of a tidy camp and will be happy to help you exploring the surroundings – on foot or with bicycle. You can’t miss the old castle Kostel, which is unfortunately currently closed for the visitors.

Camps Konda and Muhvič are located close to small city Stari trg slika.asp?slika=1582ob Kolpi, among which we would warmly recommend Muhvič. It is a very nicely settled, big enough and is happy of every new guest while camp Konda mostly hosts permanent guests. Camp Muhvič is in our opinion picture that you imagine when someone mentions camp along the river: it is located on the river coast, has clean sanitary blocks and in the high season they set up a floating moat in the middle of the river for better jumps into river. In the middle of the camp they set new typical Slovenian ‘kozolec’ where you will be able to socialize with other guests. Owners are very ecologically conscious as they promote the separating of the garbage and it is the first camp with its own waste water treatment plant.

Camp that you will come to next, if you follow the flow of Kolpa is Camp Kanu. It evolved from the rent-a-canoe and rafting shop, so the employees have the first-hand experiences and will be happy to be your guide on Kolpa. However, camp is smaller but they are investing in it. This year they build a wooden common space for socializing, where surely the specialties from grill will not be missing. The entrance to the river is nicely arranged with stoned stairs which will greatly help especially when coming from the water to the shore.

slika.asp?slika=1581If you continue way towards Vinica, you will on your left-hand side just before the Slovenian – Croatian border, find two camps, one next to another. These are Camp Katra and Camp Kolpa, both classified in two stars category. They are situated on the banks of Kolpa and are middle sized camps. In camp Kolpa you can decide to stay in mobile home Sun Roller (they have two of them), there you will also find smaller bar, where you can find fresh drinks and ice cream.

Our next stop was camp Stari pod – Jankovič in smaller city Adlešiči.  Kamp is smaller, with not much shade, but is here around well known for its long summer nights, many times spiced with musicians playing live. It is therefore very popular among younger visitors, who are longing after active nights as well (besides the all activities during the day).

We continued to the city Gradec, where we stopped at Camp Griblje and slika.asp?slika=1583Podzemelj and than lastly in Metlika at camps Primostek and Lovšin. In camps Podzemelj and Lovšin many permanent guests are staying during the summer, but especially in Podzemelj one can find enough space for the ones who prefer staying in tents. River Kolpa is in this part pretty wide and lazy, so it is perfect for swimming and relaxing on its beach. Camp Primostek is a bit bigger camp where you can rent a wooden bungalow as well. Bar at the entrance turns into restaurant in the high season and is used as the reception desk as well. They pay special attention to active guests with volleyball court, table tennis and playground for the youngest. The more brave ones can jump into the river from the swing on the bank or from the floating moat.

Besides the camp descriptions you can find also short movies we have made.
